Common questions

Asked & answered.

Seven questions, seven real answers. If yours isn't below, ring the workshop on 01484 666 333 — kettle is on.

How much does paint stripping cost?

Each piece is priced after we see it — paint build-up, condition, and finish all affect the quote. A standard four-panel Victorian door starts from £60 to strip. A full dining suite (six chairs and a table) typically lands between £320 and £480. Call 01484 666 333 for a same-week estimate with no obligation.

How long does paint stripping take?

Most single doors and small pieces are ready in 7–10 working days. Larger items (dining suites, full sets of doors, cast-iron fireplaces) are usually 2–3 weeks. The workshop queue is busiest in spring and early autumn — book early if you need a piece back for a specific date.

Do I drop items off or send them by courier?

Both work. For local customers (Huddersfield, Holmfirth, Honley, Halifax, Leeds, Wakefield) we run a Tuesday/Friday collection round on larger pieces — no charge within 20 miles of the workshop. Smaller items usually get dropped at Crossley Mills. For further afield, customers send by overnight courier — we photograph the piece on arrival so both sides have a record.

What can and can't you strip?

We strip wood (doors, furniture, staircases, banisters, kitchen worktops) and metal (cast-iron fireplaces, radiators, garden gates, four-poster bedsteads). We cannot strip uPVC, composite or laminate — the chemicals we use are designed for wood and metal only. We can recommend a joiner for new uPVC doors.

Do you finish or repaint the piece after stripping?

Yes — we offer hand-finishing, oil, wax and paint options. For wood we usually recommend Osmo Top Oil (worktops), Fiddes Hard Wax Oil (floors), or Farrow & Ball / Little Greene (painted woodwork). For metal we offer clear lacquer, waxed black, or a high-temperature enamel. The full shop range is stocked at the workshop.
