Paint stripping in Holme.

The local stock

Holme is the last village before the moor on the Holme Moss road — tight clusters of dark gritstone cottages, weavers' rows and Pennine farmsteads built to take whatever the tops throw at them. The woodwork is heavy and weathered: thick plank doors, deep mullioned window surrounds, beamed ceilings and the odd original stone fireplace. A lot of what we strip from Holme is original cottage joinery that's been painted over many times.

How we serve Holme

Holme is at the top of our own valley, so it's an easy collection. Smaller pieces are dropped at the Crossley Mills workshop in Honley; heavier doors and farmhouse furniture are collected on the van on the way down the valley.

Common questions

About paint stripping in Holme.

Can you strip an original Holme cottage door?

Yes — most doors up here are pine or softwood under heavy gloss, often with a century of paint on them. We dip-strip them, hand-finish the detail, and return bare timber ready for wax, oil or paint. A single door is usually ready in 7–10 working days.

Do you cover the upper Holme Valley?

We do — Holme, Holmbridge and Yateholme are all on our doorstep, just up the valley from the workshop in Honley. There's no collection charge within a 20-mile radius, so the whole upper valley is covered.

How much does it cost to strip a cottage fireplace?

Cast-iron inserts start from around £90 to strip and refinish; stone surrounds and larger pieces are quoted after we see them. Bring a photo or measurement to the workshop for a same-day quote on 01484 666 333.
